Nosratollah Moslemian
Nosratollah Moslemian (born November 18, 1951, in Salmas, Iran) is a contemporary Iranian painter known for his modernist approach to art. His works have been exhibited in numerous galleries across Iran and internationally, including in the United States, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Armenia.
Moslemian moved to Tehran with his family in 1957. After completing high school, he enrolled in the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran in 1971, where he studied painting. In 1977, he married Fatemeh Emdadian, a sculptor, and they have two daughters, Sahar and Mahani.
He began teaching at the University of Tehran in 1979 and became a faculty member at the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1980. However, after the Cultural Revolution, he was among the first group of professors dismissed from the university. In 1983, he built a house in Mehrshahr, Karaj, where he established his studio, which remains his primary workspace.
Moslemian has taught at various institutions, including the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, the University of Art and Architecture at Islamic Azad University, and the Mah Mehr Institute.
His paintings often explore individual identity, critiques of modernism, and the dialectics of life. His works feature multiple layers and complex symbols, encouraging deep reflection. Some of his pieces incorporate historical elements, not merely to "Iranianize" the artwork but to highlight the presence of history in contemporary life.
