Mahmoud Sabzi
Mahmoud Sabzi, professionally known as Sabzi, is an Iranian artist recognized for his abstract impressionist paintings. Born in Ahvaz, Iran, he began painting at the age of twelve and later pursued a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering at the University of Jundi Shapur.
Initially, Sabzi created realistic paintings inspired by Iranian history and culture.
During the Iran-Iraq War, he moved to Hamburg, Germany, where he explored modern art and developed his own style.
In 1991, he relocated to Southern California, where his work was influenced by both Eastern and Western artistic philosophies.
His paintings are deeply inspired by Persian rugs, which his mother designed and wove.
His style is influenced by Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, and the poetry of Rumi.
Sabzi’s works often depict women in various moods and poses, reflecting internal conflict and emotion. His paintings have been exhibited in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMOCA), and private collections in the U.S., Germany, France, and Japan.
