Bahar Behbahani, born in 1973 in Tehran, Iran, is an Iranian-American artist known for her work in painting, video, installation, and performance. She comes from an artistic family of writers, painters, musicians, and puppeteers. In 2003, she moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she pursued her career in art.

Behbahani’s work often explores themes of memory, loss, adaptation, and sociopolitical issues, with a strong focus on Persian culture and history. One of her recurring motifs is the Persian garden, which she reimagines as a space that blends aesthetics, philosophy, and ecology. She has received several prestigious awards, including the Creative Capital Award and the Painters & Sculptors Grant from the Joan Mitchell Foundation.

Her art has been exhibited internationally, and she has participated in major events such as the Sharjah Biennial. Her works are part of several permanent collections, including those at The Hood Museum of Art, Sharjah Art Foundation, and Queensland Museum.

Behbahani also teaches drawing classes at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where she encourages discussions on art, gender, and sociopolitical issues.
